2010 Update Spring has blown in and it has been
a busy season so far.
I arrived in New England in April and am staying in Boston for two months. The plans for the visit were made last summer while in a retreat creating new work in the print studio with artists and friends Lois Tarlow, Pam Thompson, and Patty Stone. I threw out a wide net and secured several schools and museums that were interested in hosting me to teach printmaking. My first workshops took place at the Essex Art Center in Lawrence Massachussetts. I conducted four workshops in all, including photo plate etching, polyester plate lithography and monotype. The students of the Essex Art Center were as excited and motivated as I was, making for satisfying and productive classes. The staff are talented and enthusiastic educators and made my teaching experience there rewarding, so much so that I am slated to teach four more workshops there in May. Additionally, several private workshops will be conducted in private studio for the remainder of my stay.

While I have been here, I have had the pleasure of attending a Boston Printmakers meeting and getting to know more of the BP members who live in the area. On May 22, the Boston Printmakers Member’s Show titled thINK! will be at Zullo Gallery in Medford, Massachussettes. There are over one hundred sixty pieces in the show, including my own Variation on Two Plates 3B. At home in Santa Fe, the City of Santa Fe Comunity Gallery show titled Meander opened April 9, 2010. The show exhibits the work of over 30 artists who depict their experience of the river in very different forms. I was invited to display Oposicion, a monotype from a series of work related to the river systems of northern New Mexico.
After my return to Santa Fe in June, I will be collaborating with Theater Grottesco in their new production slated to open in the fall. It's always a pleasure to work with John Flax and the rest of the TG organization. Beyond this, more workshops are being planned for more New England venues in the fall. If you are interested in taking part, please contact me. |
